How is your gift being used? Some of the projects funded and supported by the Annual Fund are summarized below.
Alumni Association Scholarships
Nearly 50 scholarship awards are issued annually, providing more than $70,000 in tuition reimbursements to educationally qualified student awardees.
Student Life Support/Partnership Fund
To expand campus programming and leadership opportunities, this fund is available to any registered student organization or sport club that helps finance new initiatives, activities, programs and projects open to the SF State community.
Since opening in October of 2006, the SF State Student Call Center has reached more than 180,000 alumni, parents and friends of the University. In addition to handling donations quickly and easily, student callers share updates about SF State and keep University records up to date, which ensures timely advocacy on a variety of issues that make a difference in students' lives today.
With its nearly 250,000 alumni and 30,000 students, SF State has the ability to match mentors and mentees to expand economic opportunity. Peer-to-peer mentorship enables students to reach out to the greater SF State community for career conversations, resume critiques and mock interviews, providing an opportunity for alumni to experience the rewards of being a mentor to the next generation.
Founders Day Campus Festivities
Each year on March 18, SF State celebrates its founding in 1899. The celebration focuses on strengthening programs and initiatives that benefit every student on campus. Past Founders Day highlights include official proclamations from the governor and the mayor, a giant cake marking the centennial celebration and 1,899 root beer floats and tacos given out to students, faculty and staff.
Three broadly attended community-building activities at SF State are assisted by the Annual Fund. Alumni & Family Weekend is a three-day gathering with engaging lectures and seminars as well as special tours showcasing the campus, with open house receptions held by individual colleges, departments and programs. Welcome Days is a one-week series of events focused on all of our incoming students and their families and guests, during which free SF State pendants are handed out. To honor the achievement of graduating students, a special patch for the pendant is made available at each senior send-off party.
Every member of the Alumni Association can receive a complimentary Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ® (MBTI ®) Career Report, which identifies personality type, its effects on career exploration and occupations that are a good fit, including preferred work tasks and work environments and strategies for improving job satisfaction.
