Volunteer

Through their generous gifts of time and resources, dedicated alumni put into practice the University's motto, "Experience Teaches." Here are a couple of opportunities available to you at SF State!

Please let SF State know the areas you're most interested in.

Scholarship Evaluator

Each year, alumni and friends volunteer to review SF State scholarship applications students submit in March through June to allocate nearly $200,000 in awards to 100 awardees. Applications are reviewed remotely online without any need to travel to SF State, but volunteers must access a computer with Internet. Each volunteer is expected to evaluate a minimum of 10 scholarship applications, which typically requires about 2 to 4 hours total.

You may review and select which scholarship(s) you wish to read to evaluate. We invite all alumni to sign up to evaluate scholarship applications in the next scholarship award cycle.

Mentor

Discover diverse mentorship opportunities within the Alumni Association. Engage as a mentor or mentee through various channels, connecting with SF State students who share your career, geographic, or subject matter interests. While Gator Connect is no longer available, you can still foster connections by sharing your SF State experience. Consider activities such as bringing your group of prospective students on campus tours, offering guidance through phone calls to incoming students, acting as an ambassador to celebrate their admission decisions, and encouraging your company to be a partner of the CSU Entertainment Alliance.

Stay tuned for more information on our evolving mentorship programs in the future, and let us know about your interest in becoming a mentor by signing up to volunteer with us.

Community Service & Advocacy

Support a cause, serve others, and engage in civic activities by joining SF State and signing up to volunteer through the Alumni Association. Opportunities to serve year-round are available with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Friends of the Library. Also, you can help by sharing your donor story to fundraise for a variety of SF State causes and initiatives with the University Development or advocate for increased funding of SF State and the CSU with Government & Community Relations
